The Pittsburgh office of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) is seeking a Strategic Communications Specialist I/II. This position plans, develops, and implements communications strategies for organizing campaigns in coordination with international staff and affiliates. This position is also responsible for a variety of campaign message and strategy development activities.
POSITION DUTIES: Designs leaflets, brochures and direct mail pieces, video and other materials for internal and external organizing campaigns. Implements earned and paid media efforts, including organizing and coordinating news events. Develops earned and paid media efforts, including organizing and coordinating news events. Develops electronic media campaigns, including the strategic use of e-mail, websites and other new media. Assists organizers with campaign message training of committee members, volunteer organizers and others involved in home visits and other one-on-one communications. Coordinates worker mobilization and community and political outreach efforts associated with targeted campaigns. Conducts training in communications strategy, message development and delivery techniques. Works with Organizing and Field Services and affiliates to develop their organizing communications capacity. Plans and produces recorded radio and video actualities featuring an AFSCME spokesperson for dissemination to selected stations. Develops and writes editorials and editorial pieces and arranges placement in newspapers and magazines. Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission.
REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in labor relations, communications, political science or liberal arts and three (3) to years (7) years of related work experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Considerable experience in labor, political or community organizing and campaign communications and campaign work or a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities: knowledge of and field experience leading organizing campaigns; knowledge of and experience with media relations, knowledge of graphic design software, video production and printing techniques; knowledge and experience with electronic forms of communications; ability to coordinate multidimensional campaign communications strategies; advanced oral and written communications skills; ability to develop a campaign message and enforce message discipline in fast-paced campaigns; ability to analyze research data and make logical conclusions; ability to write and design leaflets, brochures, direct mail pieces, video scripts and other materials; ability to work independently and to use initiative to execute projects that may be vaguely defined; ability to communicate in a foreign language desirable. Travel, extended hours and weekend work are required. This position will be filled at the grade commensurate with the knowledge and experience of the selected applicant.
SALARY RANGE: $62,728 - $101,857

Position Purpose: This position is responsible for the planning, execution and evaluation of community affairs and local media relations in designated regions where Williams has operations. In addition, the successful candidate will be quick to identify emerging issues, then provide to operations management, high level, strategic consultation.
The successful candidate will provide proactive, strategic direction on communications and community outreach in partnership with business unit leadership, government affairs, and other internal stakeholders. Externally, this position is the first point of contact for the public, community leaders, media, donation requests, organizations, hotline issues, and operations tours.
Other job duties include the development and delivery of presentations to local officials, government agencies, environmental groups and other external stakeholders, media training, crisis communication, participation in community and industry meetings, damage prevention efforts and recommendations about community relations giving programs. In general, this position requires the candidate to act as a public spokesperson and liaison with communities. Travel required to communities in the operations area, primarily northeast Pennsylvania. Participation in community/stakeholder meetings outside of 8 – 5 work hours is required.
Skills/Qualifications: Experience in a consulting role, writing skills with command of AP Style, strong oral communications skills, news judgment, critical thinking, ability to translate Williams’ business and goals into audience-appropriate formats, editing and proofreading proficiency. Knowledge of energy or related industry preferred. Familiarity with Pennsylvania geographical and sociological attributes, media and current events mandatory. Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or journalism. Looking for a candidate with 10-plus years relevant experience. PRSA or IABC Accreditation a plus.
Responsibilities: 75% support for Williams’ Exploration & Production business unit, 25% Midstream
Travel/re-location: Initially this position will be based in Canonsburg, with considerable travel and time spent in northeast Pennsylvania. As business growth trends are determined, the position will re-locate to an office to be determined in the northeast.

Details:
This role will support the internal and external communications objectives for the CHNA business and its brands. The role will determine strategy, plan and coordinate tactics, develop and execute communications for the CH business and brands. This would include:

PURPOSE -
The Associate Manager, Supply Chain Communications is responsible for developing and executing the internal Supply Chain communications strategy ensuring effective intergration of Heinz Global Performance System mission, vision, and vales into all internal employee communications. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES -

Experience - External
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES-
Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications or marketing / Public relations.
At least 5 plus years of solid communications experience with experience in both internal and external communications roles
Strong communications planning experience
Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic counsel as well as tactical excellence in internal communications
Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with all levels of employees
Excellent writing, editorial and oral communications skills
