PRSA... Be Involved!

As with most anything, you will get as much from your PRSA membership as you put into it. Though we are a broadly recognized national organization, we are most proud of who we are and what we do locally, right here in Pittsburgh.

We are comprised of approximately 200 local professionals, and we represent a vast array of industries, cultures, ages, experiences, and skills. From agency, to nonprofit, to corporate, to media, we are a diverse group, and that is what makes local membership so rich.

We strive to create ample opportunities for our members to learn from and share with one another. Monthly breakfast and luncheon meetings, as well as participation on various committees help us get to know one another as colleagues and friends. Read on to see how you can get the most out of a PRSA Pittsburgh membership.

Opportunities for Involvement:

Being involved is the best ways for you to realize the true benefits of your PRSA membership. By playing an active role in our chapter, you will begin to foster invaluable friendships and professional relationships.

Below is a list of the committees and sub-committees that support the local chapter. If you are interested in participating in any of these activities, or have questions, please contact Michelle Ford Faist at 412-222-8123 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Membership
Help to generate interest in PRSA and introduce new members into the chapter. Work with students as they transition into the world of professional public relations, and help the chapter as a whole shape itself to meet the needs of each member.

Membership Directory
Each year, the chapter produces a directory of its membership base. Work with others in the chapter to pull this together a great opportunity to learn more about the chapter and the local companies and organizations that we represent!

Newsletter
We make an effort to keep our members informed of chapter activities, as well as new developments and interesting insights that relate to our field. If you enjoy writing, this committee is for you!

Website
We are proud to have a Web site that is dedicated solely to PRSA Pittsburgh. Check it out at www.prsa-pgh.org. Get involved by helping us keep it updated with event information, as well as industry news and developments.

Publicity
Work with this committee to publicize information about our chapter, including events and noteworthy guest speakers as well as local awards and new partnerships.

Professional Development
It is important that we all keep our skills sharp. This group helps us do that with continuing education training on topics such as media relations, research, and writing.

New Professionals
If you have less than 2 years of experience in public relations, join this dynamic group to participate in a variety of FUN networking and social activities as well as professional development opportunities.

Programming
This committee plays a very active role in our chapter, as they shape our regular breakfast and luncheon events by recruiting top-notch speakers who will appeal to our broad base of professionals.

Renaissance Awards
Each year, we host the Renaissance Awards an event dedicated to honoring local organizations, agencies, and individuals for excellence in public relations. This is the chapter's largest event of the year, thus requiring a great deal of help from the membership. The following is a list of sub-committees that work together to execute the Renaissance Awards:
  • Judging
  • Event
  • Publications
  • Individual Awards
  • Publicity

Again, we encourage you to make the most of your PRSA membership by being active on any of these committees... you won't regret it!
